We are currently planning workshops for the june/july 2018 school holidays
Please contact us if you are interested in any of our workshops for groups of 4 or more people
Literary Drama workshops are amazing fun! Through the arts of drawing, acting and singing, storytelling is brought to life. Our drama workshops are foot stamping, toe tapping, hand clapping fun. Classical tales such as Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Billy Goats Gruff provide opportunities for our students to fully immerse themselves in literature. For older children, innovating classical texts provides an extension and challenge.
Our fractured fairytales workshop encourages our kids to look beyond the conventional, the original and the safe. Our students are taken through a creative process of choosing their favourite fairytale or folk tale and twisting it to create a new story, or offer a different perspective on a well loved tale. Each student will walk away from this workshop with a fractured short story. Combined with Shannon Horsfall's illustration workshop, children will create a whole text that addresses both creating elements essential to success across the English curriculum.
This practical, hands on workshop will cover the basics of narrative writing, including how to create a start that sizzles, and strategies to eliminate "and then...and then..." from your child's writing. We will have fantastic fun with characters and plots, warming up our creative brains with 5 minute writing sprints designed to get creativity flowing. Each child will exit the workshop with a short story, which may be illustrated if they also participate in the illustration workshop.
Drawing workshop for kids
Join Shannon Horsfall for a wonderfully creative illustration workshop tailored to your child's age. Visual literacy is an incredibly important component of education that is often overlooked in favour of other endeavours. The ability to interpret and create visual information is increasingly vital in a society that relies heavily on consuming information through viewing.
Combined with our creative writing or fractured fairytales workshops, participants will leave the studios with an illustrated short story of their very own. Perhaps your child might prefer to explore their free spirit, through illustration and literary drama that allows them to express their own vision of how a text should look.
EXCITING WORKSHOPS ALWAYS IN DEVELOPMENT!
They say that everyone has a story to tell. The ability to tell our own stories has been the cornerstone of civilisations for millennia. It is the reason why our old legends survive, converted from oral tales to beautiful, leather-bound story books.
The Literature Factory Creative Writing Programs are for both children and adults, and each group reaps a different benefit from the set up of our program.
Children, whether they be in primary or high school, benefit enormously from creative writing. In most circumstances, a desire to write stems from a love of reading, and both of these activities work to increase the vocabulary banks of students. Our facilitators work closely with our participants to step you through the creative writing process, including structure, plot, characters, genre, vocabulary, settings, syntax and more.
Whether you or your child wants to enter story writing competitions, work at something that you love or improve skills in imaginative writing, we can help.
Whether you are an aspiring author, in need of a copy editor or simply want to brush up on your creative writing skills, our Creative Writing Program is for adults as well.
If you can't find what you want here, please contact us with your specific interests and requirements and we are sure to find a solution for you.
